Sporting Events
Sport is one of the enduring and popular links which binds the Commonwealth, and the Australian Government is pleased to announce that several major sporting events will be held in the week preceding CHOGM 2011.
The events are jointly funded by the Australian and Western Australian Governments.
On the 23rd October, the top two netball teams in the world, the New Zealand Silver Ferns and the Australian Netball Diamonds, will take part in a netball match, part of the Holden Netball Test Series. This will be preceded by a match between South Africa and Malawi. This netball competition will provide Perth fans with a chance to see four of the world’s top seven teams in action.
A newly formatted hockey tournament, known as the International Super Series, featuring men’s and women’s competitions will also be on display from the 20th October to 23rd October. The hockey tournament will include teams from Australia, India, Malaysia and Pakistan and will be held at the Perth Hockey Stadium in Bentley.
Tickets have gone on sale for a hockey tournament with an exciting new format to be held in the week leading up to October’s Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). For more information go to www.hockey.org.au.
