International Super Series hockey strikes Perth for CHOGM 2011
Hockey fans are in for a special treat when the International Super Series hits Perth during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2011.
Jointly funded by the Australian and Western Australian governments, the tournament will be held at the Perth Hockey Stadium in Bentley, from Thursday 20 October to Sunday 23 October.
Hockey fans can watch the Australian men’s and women’s hockey teams in action in the newly formatted tournament especially for CHOGM 2011. The Kookaburras and Hockeyroos will star alongside teams from India, Pakistan and Malaysia.
Some of the exciting game features include:
- each match consists of two x 15 minute halves, with five minutes for half-time and 10 minutes between games
- all teams have a maximum of nine players on the field, with one player having to stay in the attacking half – or be penalised
- more tolerance of foot and stick contact to reduce unnecessary stoppages in play
- if the ball goes into the goals from a shot outside the circle, that team will be awarded a penalty corner, encouraging the goalkeeper to keep the ball alive.
